A move-out clean is easier to plan when the apartment is ready for the work. Before your appointment, coordinate your movers, clear the agreed cleaning areas and share your property manager’s requirements. This guide helps you prepare without doing the detailed cleaning you are booking.
1. Plan Around Movers and Key Handover
Where possible, arrange cleaning after movers have removed your belongings and before your final walkthrough. Share your move date, key-return deadline and any building access limits before booking. Leave room to review the work rather than scheduling cleaning against the last possible minute.
If you will still be living in the apartment, say so when requesting your quote. An occupied property can require a different plan from an empty unit. Confirm appointment availability before committing to a handover time.
2. Clear the Areas That Need Cleaning
Remove personal items from cupboards, drawers, closets and counters that are part of the agreed scope. Pack toiletries and clear floors so surfaces are accessible. Arrange disposal or removal of unwanted furniture and move-related rubbish separately; do not assume these are included in a cleaning appointment.
You do not need to deep-clean before the cleaners arrive. The aim is to provide access to the surfaces you want cleaned. Flag fragile items, damage and any areas that should be left untouched.
3. Discuss Refrigerator, Oven and Cabinet Preparation
Ask which appliance interiors are included in your quote. Empty food and personal items from the refrigerator and cabinets that will be cleaned. Follow the appliance manufacturer’s instructions and discuss any defrosting requirements in advance; do not disconnect equipment or use a self-cleaning cycle solely for the visit without checking what is appropriate.
Tell the team about heavy grease, spills or unusual buildup when you book so the appointment reflects the work needed. Share instructions for any delicate finishes or appliances that require special care.

Confirm key collection or entry instructions, a working contact number and any parking or loading restrictions. Ask your building manager whether service providers need registration, lift reservations or a particular entry route. Check that power and water will remain available through the appointment.
If your lease ends before the clean, arrange access with the property manager first. Avoid putting entry codes or private property details into public messages.
5. Share the Property Manager’s Checklist
Send the move-out requirements before booking so they can be compared with the cleaning service. Identify requests for carpet treatment, repairs, wall work, heavy rubbish removal or specialist tasks separately. Agree what is included rather than assuming every item in a lease checklist is part of the visit.
Brightstone’s move-in and move-out cleaning page explains the service. For budgeting, read the Columbus move-out cleaning cost guide. Dublin renters can also use the Dublin move checklist.
6. Review the Work Before Handover
Compare the completed work with the agreed scope and communicate any concerns promptly. Keep any cleaning receipt or documentation your property manager requests. A professional clean does not guarantee a deposit refund: the landlord’s decision can also involve damage, rent and other lease requirements.
